About VC Lampwork

The “VC” in VC Lampwork stands for me, Vangie Collins. I’ve been a lampwork glass artist for almost 20 years. My love affair with glass started in 2005 when I purchased my first lampwork glass bead. I was drawn to the bead’s beauty and uniqueness, but more importantly, I was inspired to learn the art of lampwork and explore my own creativity through working with glass.

After 3 years of practice, I felt my beads were worthy of selling at local craft fairs. It was there that a customer asked if I could infuse a bead with cremaiton ash. She told me her dog had recently died. I had lost my own beloved schnauzer, Rudy, a few years prior. I had some of her ashes so using Rudy’s remains, I developed and perfected my own technique for incorporating ashes into my glass bead designs. It was an amazing experience! It was healing, comforting, and inspiring for me. I knew then that I would focus on making cremation beads for others, helping them to heal and find comfort after the loss of a loved one.

Making a cremation bead is a very personal process for me so I ask customers to tell me a little about their beloved. There’s a place to do that when you place your order. If you are able to send a photo, please do so when you send me your ashes; I’ll return it when I send you your order.

The ability to do the glasswork I love, while simultaneously helping others deal with their grief, is a gift I truly cherish.
